Like many in his village in Phu Dong Commune, Ba Vi District, Nguyen Van Luc* makes his living through agriculture. Seeking a path to supplement his income outside of the unpredictable nature of agriculture, Luc joined HSCV’s WIC project after learning of the project through his community.
With the initial support from the project, Luc received his first flock of chickens and converted a corner of his garden into a small chicken coop. Raising chickens was new to him but Luc was eager to learn. He actively sought out modern farming techniques, and within a few weeks, upgraded his modest coop into a larger, more permanent structure to provide a cleaner living space for the chickens. He also adopted a biosafety poultry-raising model to help ensure the health and well-being of his flock.

His dedication soon bore fruit. Just a few months in, Luc’s chickens were thriving, growing strong and healthy. The stable income that followed not only improved life for his own family but it also gave him the confidence and experience to do more.
What truly sets Luc apart is his commitment to sharing his success. Rather than keeping his knowledge to himself, he began supporting other households in his village who had also joined the project. From offering tips on barn construction to sharing feed and care strategies, Lực became a local role model in building sustainable, community-based livelihoods.
Luc’s journey reminds us that meaningful change often starts with one person’s willingness to try, to learn, and to lift others along the way.
