School Scholarships

Without the school scholarships provided by HSCV these wonderful children would be forced to stop attending school.

For only $50 you can sponsor an at risk child with a year of school fees. In return you will receive a photo, biography, and have the opportunity to exchange letters, pictures and drawings with the child.

Donate $50 now, using paypal's safe and secure network

For an additional $205 you can sponsor the child's family with a monthly donation of rice for one year. This donation provides the family with the flexibility to purchase other needed items such as protein, vegetables and clothing.

Donate $255 now, using paypal's safe and secure network.

Portions of your donation to any of direct sponsorship options will be used to support other HSCV programs where funding may be lacking.

Sister School Program

Schools in Vietnam are significantly under funded. Even the most basic school supplies are in short supply. In May 2002, the Sister School Program was implemented to help alleviate this problem. This program links individual schools in Vietnam with other schools and organizations around the world. Letters, pictures, and drawings are exchanged between the two. In addition, the schools and organizations are asked raise funds which will be used to purchase supplies in Vietnam. HSCV acts as the facilitator for this program by introducing the two, assisting with the exchange of letters and purchasing of supplies. To assure that all funds are appropriately utilized no monies are provided directly to the schools or any intermediaries.

In it's first year three schools in Prior Lake, Minnesota (Prior Lake Senior High, Grainwood Elementary and Westwood Elementary) adopted the Hoai Duc Primary school. In the fall of 2002 Prior Lake students prepared their first set of letters and drawings. In November they were presented to the headmaster of the Lai Yen primary school. Students at Lai Yen enthusiastically responded with letters and drawing of their own.  During the school year of 2002-2003 students in Prior Lake schools held a variety of fund raisers for the Lai Yen school.

In June of 2003, HSCV returned to Lai Yen school with over $2300. When asked, the headmaster requested that the funds be used to purchase notebooks, pencils and if possible some type of weatherproof container for the children to carry supplies to and from school. As a result of this request, each of the 500 students received a very well made book bag/backpack. In addition, each child received 10 notebooks and 8 pencils, which will last them for an entire school year. Hoai Duc is a very poor agricultural (rice) area outside of Hanoi. All of the families are very poor with reportedly 40% of the children suffering from malnutrition. The headmaster related that the book bag may very well be the most treasured possession of many of these children. In addition, HSCV was able to provide several water filtration units for the school. Clean water is not readily available in this area and the filtration units will enable the children to have clean water while they are at school. Although school was out for the summer the school had a ceremony where the gifts were presented to some of the children. About 300 students participated, as well as many of the teachers. President Chuck De Vet said, "It was truly a rewarding experience." HSCV is very proud of the students in Prior Lake who worked so hard, and donated so much, to make this event possible.

HSCV is actively looking for additional schools and organizations interested in joining the Sister School Program and sponsoring a school in Vietnam. Please contact us at hscv.info@hscv.org if you are interested or know someone who might be.
